8.1. WHAT'S EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

While the concepts of emotional and social intelligence have been alluded to for over fifty years, psychologists Peter Salovey of Yale University and John (Jack) Mayer of the University of New Hampshire were the first to publish a scientific article outlining the currently accepted notion of the topic (Salovey & Mayer, 1990). The case for the importance of individual emotional intelligence in our work, life, and family was further elaborated by Dan Goleman (1995). The first published test measuring social and emotional intelligence was developed by Reuven Bar-On (1997).
