Chapter 26 Bioinformatics and Constraints

Rolf Backofen, David Gilbert

In this chapter we aim to introduce the topic of bioinformatics to an audience of computer scientists, highlight an illustrative selection of those areas in bioinformatics to which constraint techniques have been applied, and suggest where they may be applicable. Bioinformatics is an exciting and rapidly developing field, and we hope that we haven’t predicted all the developments in the next few years – indeed we hope that readers of this chapter will contribute to future applicatiions of constraints in bioinformatics!
