Materials
The subject area Materials describes significant advances, discoveries, inventions, and new developments in the use of materials for energy purposes. This section deals with material products that have an energy application; e.g., gunpowder, coke, arsenic, dynamite, ammonia, germanium, gallium, methanol, silicon. Substances such as coal and oil that are basic energy sources can be defined as materials in the broader sense, but these are generally covered by their own subject areas under the Sources theme.
