Although there are many models that guide the performance consultant in the overall performance-improvement process, little has been written about the leadership skills necessary to successfully interact with the client. These leadership skills are particularly important as performance consultants partner with their clients to identify performance gaps and causes. This chapter presents the performance consultant's leadership role, models, and performance aids for leading clients in the performance-analysis process. Special attention will be paid to the way in which performance consultants lead their clients with questions.
