History and the Context
Mobile technologies can clearly support, deliver and enhance learning. In doing so, they can tackle the barriers of distance, digital divides, disadvantage and disenfranchisement, however these concepts are defined. This chapter will explore the complexity of this agenda. We can orient ourselves by looking at accounts of initiatives and programmes that range from large scale to small scale, from urban to rural, from young to old, from north to south, to choose only a handful of dimensions.
