Abstract

Currently, medical prices and expenditures are measured using service-based measures rather than a treatment of disease framework. In this chapter, we present a method for calculating disease-based price indexes and compare these measures to traditional measures of price and output. The BLS currently produces diseased-based price indexes on an experimental basis.
