8.Acquisition of speech sound
Abstract: This chapter focuses on the acquisition of spoken language, concretely exemplified by the acquisition of oral German. There are two aspects to the child’s oral language development, perception and production, the former generally being ahead of production. With regard to production, the child must acquire the prosodic structure or skeleton of his/her language, as well as the segments and their features that fill the prosodic positions. Most of the phonological acquisition process is generally already accomplished at about the third birthday.
