In a May 2018 report involving analysis of almost 50 projects, Deloitte (https://www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/uk/Documents/ConsumerIndustrialProducts/deloitte-uk-blockchain-in-retail-and-cpg.pdf) found that blockchain technology is set to change the way things work in the retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector. The report found that the technology can be applied in three main categories – supply chain management, impact on consumers, and payments and contracts. Deloitte highlights the potential of blockchain to disrupt the long-established retailer-consumer relationship by eliminating intermediaries along the value chain, and shifting power away from retailer to the consumer.
