Effects of Harmonics on Distribution Systems
Assuming that nonlinear loads keep a steady expansion as load increases, harmonics on distribution systems are expected to grow as electricity demand increases. Therefore, the expected effects of harmonics described in this chapter will show a corresponding increase with load.
Predictions in energy growth are comprehensively described in the 2014 Energy Outlook.1 According to this forecast, in the period 2012–2014 electricity demand will grow by 20 to 41%, depending on whether a low or high economic growth rate, respectively, is assumed. In the same period, the increase in total delivered energy consumption in the industrial sector will be around 28%.
