This summary of the current emergency-related activities of the Home Office is based primarily on the Review of arrangements for dealing with civil emergencies in the UK released by the Home Office, June 1989 (Home Office 1989a). We do not provide a critical assessment of the Home Office Review, but mention some issues that appear to remain unresolved. Rather than reference it specifically on each occasion, the Review is quoted extensively in italics.
