The Noise at Work Regulations 1989
These regulations came into operation on 1 January 1990 and are accompanied by a number of Noise Guides issued by the HSE. They give effect in Great Britain to provisions of the Council Directive 86/188/EEC on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to noise.
The regulations bring in the concepts of ‘daily personal noise exposure’ and ‘action levels’ (see Figure 4.4).
