ACA Administrative Simplification Provisions
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 included a number of provisions that will directly impact the claims revenue cycle. Written to improve on the standards originally mandated under HIPAA and to accelerate a number of provisions of HIPAA that were never promulgated, Section 1104 of the ACA requires the adoption and regular updating of a number of critical standards, implementation specifications, and operating rules for the electronic exchange and use of health information for the purposes of financial and administrative transactions.
