Abstract
Fundamentals of process and mechanical design of unfired and fired HRSGs are reviewed in this chapter. Included in the process design are basic energy balances for the building blocks of complex systems. The building blocks are basic systems such as evaporators, evaporators with economizers, and evaporators with economizers and superheaters. The concept of “pinch point” is explained along with the benefits of multipressure systems. Supplemental firing, both in the inlet duct and with the use of a “split superheater,” is also included.
