Chapter 3Opening Moves

In Chapter 1, Quick Start, we used Android Studio to put together a simple “Hello, Android” program in a few minutes. Like most platypuses, that program doesn’t do much. In Part II, we’ll create a much more interesting application, a game of Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe.

By gradually adding more functionality to the program you’ll learn about many different aspects of Android programming. This knowledge will help you later with your own programs, whether they’re games, business apps, or anything else you can imagine. We’ll start with the user interface.
