Abstract

From relative obscurity just a few years ago, high dynamic range (HDR) has become a powerful marketing tool in the drive to sell “next-generation” televisions. Although higher resolution 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels) televisions have been around for a number of years, they were gaining limited market penetration, as they provide little noticeable difference from full high definition (HD) (1920 × 1080 pixels) displays.
