Specifications and testing

7.1 Why specifications?

Specifications are an orderly and compact way of telling users through figures, about a power amplifier’s:

(i) audio performance.

(ii) operating capabilities.

(iii) effect on the environment, and environmental ratings,

(iv) protection, and the ‘survival envelope’.

The specifications may confirm that technical standards are met; suggest a certain level of engineering competence, or confirm cognizance of particular needs. In part, they define what is being bought and sold.

Although users do not have to read specs, makers do have to issue them.
