The voltage and timing budget analysis, discussed in Chapter 6, “Channel Voltage and Timing Budget,” must guarantee reliable channel operations in the real world. This means that for high-volume manufacturing (HVM), the channel must be robust, even under worst-case operating conditions. To this end, variations in the channel (such as trace impedances and the material properties of the packages and PCBs) and process variations in the transmitter and receiver must be considered in the channel analysis.
