No sooner did the ReplayTV and TiVo video IEDs ship from their respective factories than did technically gifted hobbyists throw warranty concerns to the wind and crack open the cases, eager to learn how the machines worked and ravenous to know how they could expand and enhance their capabilities.
The same fate awaited the first audio and game IEDs. Although few successful exploits have been widely documented, hackers are out there now, tinkering away on the new UltimateTV, GameCube, and Xbox platforms.
