7A Little Push

“Knock, knock,” sang Brian.

“Hey, Coach, is it 7 a.m.? There never seems to be enough time.”

“It'll get better, Marcus,” answered Brian as he scanned the office. “You're laying the foundation for everything. That's the longest part.”

“So … what does my interior decorator think of the place?”

“I like what you've done with the Marcus Chase Memorial. Few recruits will come in here and not become part of this program. Where'd you get this older stuff? The 1944 program and old ticket stubs are cool.”

“I know, right?” said Marcus. “I went ‘all in' and made this place an extension of our locker room. I asked the admin team for some historical items. When I checked out what they had, it was hard to pick from all the great stuff.”

“I like it. Makes me want to play here. You got a spot for a slightly over-the-hill linebacker?”

“Slightly?” Marcus coughed. “Let's stick to coaching me, coach. And as for ‘all in,' I'm pleased to announce I got Gunny Gunderson as my head strength coach! He was excited and didn't deliberate. This place's hard to pass up.”

“Perfect,” Brian replied. “He'll be an asset. How's everything else going?”

“I have a few more staff interviews with previous coaches. I let the athletic director know I'm keeping a number of them. My relationship with the administration's been great, and they're supportive. My biggest challenge is salvaging a recruiting class. With signing day on February 1, I need to pull off a miracle.”
