“That's what I'm talking about!” exclaimed Brian, looking around Marcus's office. “Goodbye Marcus Chase Memorial!”

“Coach!” said Marcus. “This better be right. I don't have the nerve to ask to paint the walls three times!”

“You nailed it! I'm proud of you, and this is something to be proud of. I know I pushed you, but don't you feel inspired walking in here?”

“Yes,” nodded Marcus. “You're right again.”

Taking his usual seat, Brian asked, “How've things been?”

“Busy, but I feel good going into the break,” replied Marcus. “I've selected my staff and recruiting trips are planned. I kept a few commits and feel good about some others. And Gunny's connecting with the players. They love his workouts.”

“Great,” smiled Brian.

“Here's Christmas gift number 1,” said Marcus, pulling out a present.

“What's this?” Brian asked as he unwrapped the present. “Spam? You got me a can of Spam?”

“You said get rid of the old ham,” replied Marcus.

“I guess I did. But I didn't say give it to me!”

“Ha … I don't need it anymore, Coach. Your assignment was tough, but the work was worth it. I have my motto and it's original,” Marcus said as he handed the golden brick to Brian.

Brian read the words “Cor Unum.”

“Cor Unum …” said Brian. “It means ‘one heart,' right?”

Marcus looked disappointed. “Man … does everyone know Latin? First Sam and now you.”

“Sam saw this?”

“No, Coach,” replied Marcus, “Sam came up with it! Well, not with the idea, but he found the Latin phrase. Our meeting went well. ...
