If I could give only one sentence of advice to job hunters, it would be: “Talk with as many people as possible about your job search.”
If your job search is like most, talking to people is the most important thing you can do. If you’re smart about who you talk to and what you say, your search will go faster and better. But even if you’re not very smart about it—even if you don’t think about it very much or plan it very well—you will still find a job, if only you hang in there, keep at it, and listen as well as talk.
