8 Create and Use Phone-Screens
Interviewer: “Oh, yes, let’s see. How many years of Smalltalk experience do you have?”
Candidate: “I don’t have any Smalltalk experience. Why?”
Interviewer: “Oh, too bad. We only need people who know Smalltalk. Hmm, maybe the job posting didn’t make that clear, but it’s the case. So, I guess there’s not much point in continuing this interview. Thanks for coming in, but we really can’t use you.”
We can imagine a scene in which an interviewer sitting at a desk is reading a candidate’s résumé for the first time. The candidate, seated opposite him, fidgets anxiously in his chair. That’s crazy—that wastes your time and the candidate’s time.
