History and Management Becoming “Sciences”
Introduction
This chapter aims to provide the necessary context for the remainder of the book by briefly tracing the struggles of both history and management to come into their own as academic disciplines. The chapter will discuss in particular how the differences and similarities in their origins and trajectories shaped their evolution and interrelations until the present day. Broadly speaking, historical writing has deep roots, going back to antiquity, whereas research and writing on management are much more recent.
