Introduction
As the preceding chapter has shown, history and management experienced their elevation to a “science” almost a century apart—and what it meant to be a science was rather different in the nineteenth and the second half of the twentieth century. However, while history became fully integrated into the extant (and new) universities around the globe, in many countries, business and then management were initially offered within stand-alone institutions of higher education rather than university-based schools or departments—a pattern that persists today in many of these places.
