Any Casting Is Not Right Casting
A project management system should carry the same weight in an IT shop that the studio system carries in Hollywood. Without such a system, the shop is left with only two traits to carry it through its mission, both personal in nature: skill and expertise. In a very real sense, these are shaky traits to build a business on, specifically because they rest in individual initiative and not in a broader organizational capability. But in the context of project management, these same traits, especially when they are set free within a system to operate to their full potential, can be major contributors to the success of a specific endeavor.
