Baselining the script and tracking script changes are both de jure and de rigueur Hollywood practices. Because the production process is expensive and work-intensive (12-hour days are the rule), producers are concerned primarily with schedule and budget affinity. They can trust the "theater" of the piece to the creative team; the director, writer, stars, and designers will see that aspect of the mission through.
