Despite the trend of households moving away from traditional landlines for phone service, having a reliable landline to your residence extends the capability to control and manage your home via your home automation platform. Wherever you are, as long as you can receive a phone call, you can be in full control of your home.
Aside from the capability to be controlled from a distance, your home can notify you of problems as soon as they arise. Having a landline for $600 per year is significantly lower than the possible cost of an expensive cleanup or repair from any problem that HAL software could notify you about when configured properly to do so.
