Dr. Arnold’s son Bobby was one of those rare people gifted with both a love of sports and natural athletic ability. He excelled in almost everything he attempted, and his athletic development was slowed only once, and then only briefly, by an inguinal hernia at the age of 13. Dr. Arnold wondered if the constant lifting and straining in practice was responsible, but Bobby’s pediatrician had been equivocal about that. Regardless, the outpatient repair procedure had been straightforward.
