9. The Five Realms of Design

Most of us wear several different hats on any given day. I am simultaneously husband, father, son, teacher, friend, writer, artist, designer, musician, and so on. Many of these roles overlap, and sometimes they compete with one another. Likewise, designers perform multiple roles. We are media tamers, audience advocates, client liaisons, ethical professionals, and aesthetic watchdogs of our projects. Each of these roles operates in its own “realm” of design.
