GETTING TO THE WHY
The morning train into the city the next morning was full. Sharp-dressed businesspeople with briefcases and laptops sat side by side with medical professionals in scrubs and comfortable shoes and construction workers in boots and hard hats. Julie typically spent the ride observing this wide variety of individuals. She and her brother had often taken the train into the city when they were growing up to visit museums or to meet up with their father for a quick lunch break. To pass the time, they loved making up stories about the people they saw in the seats around them, imagining astronauts and spies, brain surgeons and senators, all heading off to their busy offices.
