Chapter 43The Security of Glass
This story takes place in a European bank that asked us to do some work as part of a larger piece of work. This, I think, highlights several facets of security.
I am never off duty when it comes to security. Walking around shopping malls, streets, on holiday, or even in my own village, I spot security issues everywhere, and sometimes I am in the fortunate position to tell people about them. I used to tell strangers about their security issues, but that caused them to be suspicious or made me look weird and paranoid.
In this instance, my wife and I were flown over and given the VIP treatment. On arrival, we were met by a car and taken to our plush hotel. The next morning, another car picked us up in the rain and took us to the client's incredible headquarters—a fabulous glass and steel monument to wealth.
We performed our tasks, and the client was incredibly happy with our work. At the end of the day, we were given a tour that ended at the non-official main entrance. The building was made of two separate buildings connected by a covered corridor, and I noticed we hadn't come in this way.
As we walked through the lobby, I saw this.
I was shocked. I pointed to the monstrous white man-trap in the middle of the lobby, bolted to the floor and standing eerily out of place like a monolith in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
