7 System Configuration: Logging, System Time, Batch Jobs, and Users
When you first look in the /etc directory to explore your system’s configuration, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. The good news is that although most of the files you see affect a system’s operations to some extent, only a few are fundamental.
This chapter covers the parts of the system that make the infrastructure discussed in Chapter 4 available to the user-space software that we normally interact with, such as the tools covered in Chapter 2. In particular, we’ll look at the following:
