In 1985 brothers John, Randy, and Dave Fry, along with John's former girlfriend Kathryn Kolder, opened the first Fry's Electronics store in Sunnyvale, California. The Fry brothers weren't the first in the family to enter the retail market. Their father Charles and uncle Donald were the founders of Fry's Food and Drug Store, a successful supermarket chain that now boasts over one hundred locations around the country. In fact, the seed money that launched Fry's Electronics came from the profits the elder Frys made when they sold their grocery chain to new owners in 1972.
