STEP 5: STAND UP FOR WHAT’S RIGHT

As we’ve discussed, microaggressions come in a variety of forms and can have a variety of harmful impacts. They can be incredibly deflating and depleting, and can affect health and happiness of the individual or the group on the receiving end far beyond the microaggression moment. In “Step 3: Recognize and Overcome Microaggressions,” we learned that microaggressions come in the form of microassaults, microinsults, and microinvalidations. We can counter these with microaffirmations, microinterventions, microsupport, microassurances, and microvalidations.
