When Sydney won the Olympics for 2000 it was an exciting time for Australia. A couple of years after the event I had an opportunity to work in Sydney and Melbourne. Particularly in Sydney, as I was meeting people, I realized that there was a unique energy and excitement in the air. People were excited about what was happening with their country. Businesses were booming. Tourism was going through the roof. I asked if they could put their finger on what it was that had made the difference. Several put it down to an exact moment: the moment when they actually knew that they were going to be hosting the Olympics in the new millennium.
