When to Use Each of the Five Styles of Conflict Resolution
Following are some example scenarios of when it would be appropriate to use each of the five styles shown in Figure 5–2.
Strategy #1: Withdrawal/Avoidance
Withdrawal/avoidance is a strategy that calls for ignoring conflict in the hope that it will go away. People who practice this style maintain neutrality at all costs and view conflict as a worthless and punishing exercise. They remove themselves physically or mentally from the situation and feel little concern for people and for task accomplishment. People who follow the withdrawal/avoidance strategy want to steer clear of conflict.
