If you can write good copy, you can sell anything. Take a look at the advertisement in figure 17.1, which the great explorer Ernest Shackleton purportedly wrote when he needed to find brave men to accompany him on his Antarctic journey.

Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.
