CHAPTER 29CULTURE WILL PREVAIL

During these challenging times of the turnaround, culture became more important than ever. We had learned our lessons from the American experience, and as a result had worked hard to enhance our processes through our executive meetings and off-site strategic retreats, and regularly reviewed our systems and culture via the business planning sessions. We needed a team that were absolutely committed to getting us through this extraordinarily challenging time, and our focus on the three plans that Cath and her offsider, Steph, had initiated — the cultural, communications and business plans — were at the heart of that. Everyone was up for the challenge. Jonni, our meditation coach, talked to the importance of us all choosing to be elite at what we did; that these next few years of the business's journey was our ‘grand final’, and that we needed to give our absolute all to be successful. We had just a few years to make our goals a reality and if we could sustain our energy and focus, we could achieve it. This is antithetical to what most meditation coaches teach but we found it inspiring to discover that meditation could be used as a tool for accomplishment as well as relaxation.
