Hyper realism

A mismatched fight between a man with a gun and a woman with sticks should make a compelling image. But the version above lacks drama: it’s all too static and posed. By throwing realism to the winds, we can create a much stronger, more engaging image that really draws our interest.

FOR TIMES WHEN REALITY becomes too much to bear, we need to add illustrative elements that make a static picture look more dynamic. These move an image towards hyper realism: what we’re depicting is no longer gritty realism, but a graphic illustration.
