Focus Groups

When you have a number of people from whom to obtain information on the same subject, a focus group meeting is an efficient and effective approach. As with interview preparation, a clear understanding of the information sought is important. The major difference from the interview is determining who should attend any one focus group.

Focus groups are most productive when the participants are at the same level within the organization and have approximately the same degree of knowledge. When determining which of the randomly selected employees are to attend a meeting, these factors must be considered. However, do not attempt to have the meeting membership represent specific opinions. Include a random sample of people.
