Contrasting Values for Effect
Manipulating shapes and lighting aren’t the only ways to breathe life into a still life composition. Incorporating a balanced range of values and creating strong contrasts among them will draw immediate attention to your work. You may have noticed that I took a little artistic license and deepened the tones of the flowers in the project on pages 14–15 for greater variety and a stronger statement—but this lesson goes even farther, selecting objects of varying tones that make a striking appearance when grouped together.
