The end – and the beginning

So, how did it end for Tom Gorman, the MD of TDG Print, who we saw back in the Introduction wondering how he was ever going to grow his business? Well, it did end well for him. First of all, he recognised his own abilities and limitations.

‘Back in 1998 I thought business was all about sales,’ he says. ‘I’ve learnt that there’s much more to it than that and so, while my strength is sales, I’ve realised that to grow my business I need to surround myself with people who are good at getting things done. I need people who are strong in areas like human resources, finance and process engineering.’

He deliberately hired people with those skills. Recruiting them wasn’t easy. In fact Gorman describes it as his greatest challenge. ...
