Build your platform

Influential people do not have to rely on office and status for power. They create their own form of informal power. They all have a platform which they cultivate carefully. These platforms represent a short cut to power and influence. Instead of waiting and hoping for promotion, these platforms offer influence and power in a hurry.

There are four main types of platform you can use:

1. Influential people: borrow credibility and influence.
2. Influential places: go where the power is.
3. Claims to fame: build your personal platform.
4. Agenda control: have a plan.
