Moments of truth
There are moments when we all see power ebbing and flowing between people. They are moments when people move from obscurity to centre stage. In some cases, they are centre stage and implode in spectacular fashion. Months and years of work can suddenly pay off or get lost.
Most of these moments of truth are predictable. We can prepare for them, even if we can not predict exactly when and where the moment of truth will happen. Classic moments of truth include getting the right or wrong assignment; making a presentation to top management which flies or falls; going to meetings where essential decisions are made for or against your interests.
