Switching your focus of attention

Mark is a 51-year-old car mechanic. He thinks of himself as shy, and finds it stressful to deal with customers he doesn’t already know.

I tend to keep myself busy with the vehicles and stay away from the office. I prefer to let one of the other guys handle the customers. But that’s not always possible. Sometimes I have to take a turn in the office, and customers will also sometimes just come straight up to you while you’re working on their car. Then I’m quite nervous. I know I’m not great at dealing with other people. I can’t seem to get my words out properly. I feel like I’m blushing red as a beetroot. The customers must think I’m an idiot.
