APPENDIX 3Formatting Tips

The most important formatting principle is: What stands out on the page is what will stand out in the reader’s mind.

In order to format your résumés and cover letters so that your most important credentials leap off the page and into the reader’s mind, you must use effective formatting techniques. This appendix provides tips for attractively formatting your documents in Microsoft Word and in automated applications systems. Note that all of the formatting features incorporated into the résumés included on the CD accompanying this book are explained here.
