Manage your boss

Most of the management literature focuses on how leaders should manage their teams. This omits the most important person in a leader’s work: their boss. Leaders have bosses. Leadership is not about your title, it is about what you do. If you are a true leader, leading from the middle of the organisation you may have more than one boss. Even if you are the CEO, you will have to report to a board and a chair person. And if you want to be effective, you have to manage your boss well – they have the power to make life good or bad for you.
