8 Identifying the Work
In Chapter 7, we discussed the process a team uses to identify all of the products that will be created during the execution of the project. We list these products in the product breakdown structure (PBS). As shown in Figure 8-1, the next step in the process is to identify how these products will be created. This involves the development of the work breakdown structure (WBS), which documents project activities and their respective effort.
While the PBS identifies the items to be produced and the WBS identifies the work to be done, the documents are created using similar processes, and both are critical to the development of the plan.
