Introduction

Management will hold many beliefs about how the organization for which they work functions. These will be constructed over time and will be tested out, revised, and developed further on the basis of their experiences. The beliefs will be used in the process of management as a basis for designing, justifying, and gaining the support of others for policies undertaken. Thus, managerial action will be based on the beliefs that management hold. Where beliefs are sound, intended action outcomes will be achieved, and when beliefs are unfounded, actions are likely to have unintended outcomes.
