LA Screenings, the Upfronts (and NewFronts)

While the TV markets are home turf for the independents, a quick survey of the studio scene is in order before we canvas that terrain, just to put the mammoth pieces of the industry pie into perspective. Hollywood studios don’t “need” the film and TV markets — although many of their subsidiaries and independent shingles may attend. As distribution and marketing powerhouses, with the longest-standing international relationships and reputations, they have their own unique ecosystem. Two of the most critical events in the studios’ annual television buying and selling (i.e. financing and distributing) cycle are the LA Screenings and the Upfronts.
